I have several beauty editor friends with dry-ish skin and they swear by Dermalogica's Super Rich Repair. (It's not for my skin type so I haven't tried it except for the most freezing cold winter days.) It has great packaging - you just push down on the top and the product squirts out this tiny hole... so totally sanitary and would be great for travelling.

Yes the Nivea is quite thick & I have used the light version. I actually used the Nivea in the tine yesterday night & my skin feels great today. I use very little & warm it up between my fingers. Nivea does have a few others moisturizers that I like ex.Q10 but I find its their European versions that are great. It all depends on your own skintype.

In winter, I like to use La Mer. Not because it's famous fix it all cream. It's just rich enough for me to keep my skin healthy.

Nivea Creme is way too rich for me, but I do like Nivea Soft during dry spells. I mostly use Clinique's DDMG and Superdefense, though, they really do a great job balancing my need for lots of moisture and oil-control.
