I remember the best thing about going back-to-school was the shopping. Of course shopping for school can be expensive and having a student budget it's not easy getting all the beauty essentials.
However, you don't have to break the bank! My challenge: spend a $50 giftcard at Walmart. Easy right? I thought so too. I wanted to get everything but already being a beauty product hoarder I knew I could only pick out a few essentials.
- Tools: in every beauty kit you must have the right tools. I've been a big fan of the Chapman Sisters from youtube (pixiwoo username on youtube) so when they released their makeup brushes a few years back I knew it was a no brainer. Affordable and amazing quality for a budget friendly student.
- multi-use: look for products that serve more than one purpose. Cotton swaps are a no brainer, so many uses. Bonus, came with a pack of facial wipes. Coconut oil, oh my so many uses! Just to list a few: makeup remover, moisturizer, shaving oil, hair mask, lipbalm, cooking....and the list goes on.
- basics: start with the beauty basics. Students don't have alot of time to do their makeup so a basic face is the best face for class. A tinted moisturizer, mascara, and a rosy bronzer will fake "I slept all night look" even though you pulled an all-nighter (totally don't miss those University days).
When shopping on a budget look for sale (obviously) but this is when brand loyalty doesn't exist. Maybe your favourite mascara isn't on sale try something new from the sale rack. Or at Walmart as they like to say "Roll Back" pricing. Another tip, Walmart has a clearance section right before the beauty aisles. That's where I picked up the BB Cream + body moisturizer for $10. And the Rimmel items were 2 for $10. Look around and compare the prices.
My total came out to a little over $50 with the tax. As you can see $50 can get you the basics to start off the school year right.
