May the Force be with you {hair shedding}

After a certain age, according to most mature women I've spoken to, your hair goes down the drain...literally. Various factors could be the culprit for women experiencing hair shedding/loss, one is a thyroid condition which runs in my family but doesn't effect me. So after ruling that out and stress I've come to the conclusion that after my mid-20's, when I noticed less hair, my only option is getting plenty of nutrients in my system. My hair is still pretty thick but I have alot less of it, ironically when I was teen I hated my hair because it was so thick and I had alot of it. But the girth of my ponytail is alot thinner and I can see my scalp (but no patches). So, without stressing out about it, which makes the situation worse, I've tried to ignore my hair shedding problem. As I finished my bottle of multi-vitamins I ventured out in search of a "cure" because I couldn't ignore the problem any longer.
My plan of attack:
Prairie Naturals Hair Force Nutritional Supplement-a multi-vitamin & mineral formula, contains Biotin which is good for hair
White Lightning Intensive Hair & Scalp Revitalizing Serum-a hair serum containing amino acids, trace minerals & vitamins

Murad Professional Scalp Treatment for Thinning hair Shampoo & Conditioner- I happened to find this on sale & decided to give it a try. Ingredients: pomegranate extract, artemia extract, & AHA's

I've only been using this for the last week so no results or conclusions yet.

All of the above was purchased by me & no affiliation with any of the mentioned products.
Have any of you experienced hair shedding/loss? If yes, what works for you?

  1. oh my goodness, you read my mind this morning!!! i am constantly having to clean out my shower drain - i shed constantly!! i don't know what it is or what to do about it. i can't take any dietary supplements because i have A LOT of food allergies and i haven't found a supplement that doesn't make my tongue swell.

    i'll have to try this murad shampoo/conditioner. i use murad face products, and i like them so i hope i'll like their hair products, too!

  2. Sometimes hair shedding with women can be a hormonal thing as in after having a baby. Lots of good quality B vitamins are said to be very good for the hair, in particular Biotin (which you mentioned in your post). Also hot oil treatments, castor oil is said to be very nourishing to the scalp and helps keep hair thick. Good luck.
    p.s. Always enjoy reading your blog.

  3. Thanks ladies!
    Yes, vitamin B is good especially B12:-) And no baby here, I've also heard taking Pre-natal vitamins are good not just for pregnant women but I've not gone down that route.

  4. I once had hair loss, just a small bald patches years ago from stress. I took a lot of hair vitamins but nothing worked. Maybe these would have been the solution.

  5. Mon, such a great post!

    I've always had healthy thick hair, but lately, I am feeling the thickness go down significantly too! I am now at a point, where I have to consider whether getting another set of highlights will potentially cause more hair loss...eeek...and I thought only MEN should worry about this!

    Please do a follow up on these treatments...and let us know if they worked for you. I am curious and also wouldn't mind some help in this department :)
