Facial Oils: yes or no?

The use of facial oils is not a trendy one. Although, as of late every skincare company seems to be adding one to their skincare line. However, facial oils are either a hit or miss. I know for myself I've used facial oils on and off for the last decade. At first more so as a cleansing oil but lately more as a moisturiser. Here's an article on the Oil Cleansing Method I wrote back in 2008.
Honestly, it has taken me a few years to figure out which oils my skin likes. And, I think many don't like facial oils because they've broken out. The key to remember is not all oils are created equally and the application is another factor. Unfortunately, in order to really discuss facial oils I'll have to break up this post into various. So here I will write about the latest oils I have been using and liking. In a future post I'll get more into different types of oils and which are best suited for skin types.

Beauty Counter Balancing Face Oil: this is the latest facial oil in my collection. I'm still on the fence about this oil as I have had a breakout or two the day after using it. So, I am still trying to narrow down to which specific type of oil is causing the breakout. PROS: light weight, absorbs quickly, and light scent. CONS: as stated one of the ingredients doesn't agree with my skin. I suspect it's the argan and rosehip combination. I find that argan and rosehip can be too rich for my combination skin type (there are other brands where I can use rosehip depending on the grade). Retails $79
ingredients: Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Oil, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil*,Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil,Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Oil,Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Cananga Odorata (Ylang Ylang) Flower Oil, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Oil.
*Organic/Biologique
SIBU Sea Berry Therapy Sea Berry Seed Oil for Problematic Skin: this is one of my faves for travel. Absorbs quickly, non greasy and feels amazing especially when I am feeling dehydrated. I wake up glowing and my skin feels amazing. Retails $19.95 for 10ml ingredients: 100% Therapeutic-grade Sea Berry (sea buckthorn) Seed Oil
OLE HENRIKSEN Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil: Rose hip oil is a hit or miss for my skin type. It can be too rich however this grade absorbs nicely. But, I can't use this daily because of it's richness. This is my go-to when I am working (as a flight attendant). Perfect for those more drying climates. Let dry completely as rose hip can stain pillow sheets. $45 for 15ml ingredients: 100% Organic Rose Hips Seed Oil
The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Facial Oil: Love this facial oil! Light weight, absorbs well, and leaves the skin hydrated but not oily. Although the ingredients list for a facial oil is longer than I'd like and a few additives I do appreciate that The Body Shop has released an exceptional facial oil.  Retails $44 for 30ml ingredients: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Emollient), Olea Europaea Fruit Oil/Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil (Emollient), Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil/Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (Skin Conditioning Agent - Occlusive), Camelina Sativa Seed Oil (Emollient), Rosa Canina Fruit Oil (Skin Conditioning Agent), Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil (Skin Conditioning Agent - Emollient), Nigella Sativa Seed Oil (Emollient), Parfum/Fragrance (Fragrance Ingredient), Tocopherol (Antioxidant), Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate (Antioxidant), Limonene (Fragrance Ingredient), Linalool (Fragrance Ingredient), Citronellol (Fragrance Ingredient), Geraniol (Fragrance Ingredient), Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil (Fragrance Ingredient), Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil/Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Leaf ) Oil (Fragrance Ingredient), Origanum Majorana Leaf Oil (Refreshing Agent), Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil (Fragrance Ingredient), Coumarin (Fragrance Ingredient), Lavandula Angustifolia Oil/Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil (Natural Additive), Lavandula Hybrida Oil (Fragrance Ingredient), Citral (Fragrance Ingredient), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Peel Oil/Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil (Fragrance Ingredient)
Navy Bean Handmade Facial and Hair Oil: a fantastic multi-use oil. A rich oil that absorbs nicely and consists of an amazing blend of anti-aging ingredients. This bottle will last me forever as it's quite alot of product (50ml). Also, Navy Bean Handmade Apothecary is a local handmade product from Canada, so yay local made. Retails $30 for 50ml ingredients: Organic camellia oil, organic perilla oil, tamanu oil, sea buckthorn oil, avocado oil, carrot seed oil and grapefruit essential oil

This post was a little image heavy (just a little) however I did state that there will be a few more posts on the subject of facial oils. Stay tuned! Lots to learn.
