Zooey Deschanel is the new Pantene girl

One of my favourite It girls, Zooey Deschanel has been named as the new Pantene girl. She will appear in Pantene's newest campaign supporting the Pantene Beautiful Lengths collection in August 2012.
“Being a ‘Pantene girl’ has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. It is really amazing to be representing the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Collection, the products are fantastic and Pantene also supports the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program which is a wonderful cause. Pantene is helping to provide confidence and beautiful real-hair wigs to women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment; you can’t put a price on that.”
Did you know she also blogs over at HelloGiggles, a trendy inspirational blog where you'll find a variety of topics including beauty and D.I.Y projects.
The Pantene collection includes Pro-V Keratin protection formulas that help prevent breakage and split ends while letting your hair grow long.
Available in July 2012.
Now if only I could wear my hair as cute as Zooey!

Look Good Feel Better® with your Support

Earlier this month I lost a friend/co-worker to cancer, she was only 30 years old. In my opinion she didn't loose her battle to cancer but with my faith instead had a higher calling. We have all encountered cancer in our lives, either in the form of knowing someone who has had cancer or someone who has passed away. Perhaps closer to home, a family member or yourself.
Every woman likes to feel beautiful, if we didn't there wouldn't be countless beauty blogs. And regardless if your going through an illness, looking good makes us feel better. According to the 2012 Harris Survey:
  • Nearly every women surveyed (95% of women who haven't had cancer, and 97% of women with cancer) said that looking good makes them feel good.
  • About three out of four women with cancer (69%) said that prior to treatment their overall appearance was very important or important to their self-esteem.
  • The aspects of physical appearance that mattered most to women and had the most impact on their self-esteem before they began cancer treatment are hair (80%), skin/complexion (75%) and weight (79%).
  • 54% of women with cancer said people made assumptions about them based on the way they looked during treatment before they took steps to address the side effects of cancer treatment.
  • After addressing their appearance-related side effects, 70% of look good feel better participants reported feeling in control of how they looked, compared to 58% of women who addressed their side effects without look good feel better.(survey conducted by Harris Interactive (U.S) on behalf of the Personal Care Products Council Foundation)
The Look Good Feel Better® program is open to all women with cancer undergoing treatment. The program is made possible by the thousands of beauty professional volunteers. This week is the Look Good Feel Better® Week, more than 50,000 people with cancer in the U.S alone each year are helped through the program. In Canada over 100,000 women have been helped either through workshops and services.

its all about the coffee {D.I.Y Interior Design}

So, what does one do with all the travel souvenirs one collects? Gets creative! Not being one to collect typical souvenirs from my travels, like t-shirts and key chains. I try to find travel items that I can display in my home without them collecting dust or later being sold at a garage sale. One such item is a burlap coffee bag that I purchased three years ago in Colombia for less than $2. The intention was always to frame the large burlap bag and with the recent purchase of my first home it finally found a place.
The coffee bag was huge! Trying to find an inexpensive frame for the scale of the bag was actually quite easy, I went to IKEA and purchased the RIBBAS frame (72cm x 102cm). I had to trim the bag & cut off one of the sides as it would've been too thick for the frame. Made a huge mess! Since the bag had been in storage for 3 years I also had to steam the creases (carefully). Nonetheless, I'm happy with the outcome. Another way to display the bag would've been to stretch it over an artists' canvas and staple the edges.
Do you collect travel souvenirs too? And how do you display your travel finds?

Get GLOW-ing! {magazine}

With the increase of social media and online magazines some would argue that print magazines are on the way to extinction. However, one of Canada's print beauty magazines has had a makeover! GLOW magazine previously published by Rogers Communications has recently been acquired by St. Joseph Media; publisher of FASHION, MARIAGE Québec, Canadian Family and Toronto Life. GLOW magazine will not only continue as a print magazine but will also incorporate social media. Previously, GLOW concentrated on being Canada's beauty expert however the revamped version beginning May 2012 will bring fashion to its pages too.
(by: Tania Kwong,

fashion editor: Juliana Schiavinatto,
makeup: Diana Carreiro-read my exclusive interview here)
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting up with Editor-in-Chief, Juliette Lie Baxter and Beauty Editor, Tania Kwong. And there is no truth to The Devil Wears Prada, these ladies were personable and friendly. Like meeting old University friends for coffee! Their enthusiasm for the revamped GLOW was so contagious I wanted to blurt out, "Are you hiring?". I had the chance to get a sneak peak of the upcoming story boards. In keeping with the old GLOW's beauty expertise which I loved; the revamped version is a "grown-up" blend of beauty, fashion and healthy living.
The May 2012 cover features one of Canada's top models, Daria Werbowy. These girls sure know how to start off the revamped GLOW on the right foot!

Thankfully, print magazines are not dead. As I still enjoy the tangible feel of print magazines, there is nothing better than receiving your favourite magazine subscription or picking one up at the newsstand.
Look for GLOW magazine at your favourite newsstand near you or read their online version!

Cruz'ing {Harper's Bazaar}

I've been a fan of Penelope Cruz way before she hit the American circuit and I'm still a fan. Loving her Harper's Bazaar May 2012 cover! The tousled hair & shade is gorgeous and as we have similar hair, its also inspiration for me to change it up a bit. A peak into the interview:

On her idol, Meryl Streep: “When I first started watching movies and I saw Meryl’s work, that’s when I became obsessed with acting,” Penélope says. “Now I kiss her whenever I see her! She must think I’m crazy.” She recalls a magazine shoot they did together a few years ago for the AIDS charity (RED). “As soon as she got to the set, I had to sit topless on top of her. It was the most interesting love scene I’ve ever done.”
 On juggling motherhood and career: “Maybe I’ll make one movie a year, maybe two, but it’s not going to be more than that because I have other priorities now.” “I won’t go to places where you’re going to find more attention. I go to the opposite.” Her perfect day is “running around with my family at the beach, that’s all.” Even though Penélope is remarkably direct and is effusive about “being happier in my 30s than I was in my 20s,” she also characterizes herself as a “worrier. I am living for every day and trying to have less fear, less worry. But I have always worried about everything; it’s in my nature. It’s the thing that makes me suffer the most.”
Of her red-carpet fashion choices, she says "All I look for is to be able to breathe!"
The may issue will be on newstands April 24, 2012.

Coffee anyone? {Travel Tuesday}

New York City, NY
How do you take your coffee? As a flight attendant that is one question I ask the most at work. It is also the one question that puzzles me about passengers. Why? Let me explain. For some odd reason when people become passengers all of sudden they forget how to order coffee. Its quite simple. For example;

  1. When you go to Starbucks you pretty much need a prescription to order a coffee and for those that don't know how, here's a lesson
  2. When you go to Tim Hortons, (a popular Canadian baked goods restaurant) you might ask for a "double, double" meaning two creams, two sugars.

For the two above examples; you have most likely stood in line and formulated your coffee request. So, why is it that a passenger that sees a flight attendant coming down the aisle with a trolley forgets how to order coffee?
Sao Paulo, Brazil
As I am on the topic of coffee its also my favourite beverage, hot or cold. No matter where I am in the world I always find a café to sit at and people watch while I drink my coffee.
London, England
So, coffee anyone?

La Roche-Posay is on my hotlist {sunscreen}

Sunscreen! Sunscreen! Sunscreen! Yes, you read that three times. No matter how many times we read or hear how bad the sunrays are for our skin there are still those goofs who insist on frying in the sun without any sun protection. Did I ever sit in the sun? Hoping to achieve that perfect bronze toned skin? Did I bake under the harmful UVA rays of tanning beds? Yeah, of course I did. We are all guilty of it. Yes, I was a stupid teenager and thankfully I realized in my 20's that I didn't need or want to tan anymore. Thankfully, I also never had a bad blistering sunburn. Perhaps due to my European-olive toned skin I tan easily but that doesn't immunize my skin type from skin cancer.
Last month when I attended La Roche-Posay's Sunscreen Event I was expecting the usual; a look at upcoming products, a brief intro to products, chit-chat with fellow bloggers and leave. However, I was pleasantly surprised that not only was the event educational but board certified dermatologist Dr. Paul Cohen was on hand to discuss skin cancer and how if detected early increases your chances of survival. And you don't have to be a dermatologist to check your skin, the key is to be aware! Do a SkinCheck! You know your body better than anyone, educate yourself on what to look for. Check out My Skin Check, use the online tools to assist you on evaluating your risk level. Take that information and pass it along to your GP or dermatologist.
Keep on reading, I'm not paid to insert links on my blogs or reviews. I want my readers to become aware that in today's day and age skin cancer is a cancer that seems to get ignored (in my opinion) by the majority of the population, I write this because I continue to see sunbathers with baby oil at beaches. Also, at the event I had the chance to listen to a skin cancer survivor who detected it in her 30's. Very touching story! She was part of this video:

Lastly, did I use La Roche Posay's sunscreen prior to this event. Yes! It's one of my oldest sunscreen staples. Thanks to MakeUpAlley I discovered LRP Anthelios ages ago.  I would hunt this sunscreen in Europe when Canada didn't carry it.
Know your skin.
